Why we buy Irish

Ireland is surrounded by some of the cleanest most productive fishing waters in the world. The cold nutrient rich North Atlantic that washes our shores produces seafood of extraordinary quality — wild hake with its delicate sweet flake, black sole prized as the finest flatfish in Europe, native oysters with their extraordinary mineral depth of flavour, organic salmon with its deep coral flesh and superior fat marbling. The waters around Ireland are among the most biodiverse and productive in the world and Irish fishermen have been working them sustainably for centuries. Yet despite this extraordinary natural resource, much of what is sold in Irish supermarkets and fish shops is imported from Norway, Scotland, Iceland or further afield. At Seafood.ie we made a decision from the very beginning — Irish first, always, without exception.

“Ireland has some of the finest fishing waters in the world. We see no reason to look anywhere else”

Buying Irish means fresher fish — shorter journeys from sea to plate mean better quality, better texture and better flavour in every single product. It means full traceability — we know exactly where every fish comes from, who caught it and how. It means direct support for Irish fishing families and coastal communities whose livelihoods depend on a healthy sustainable fishing industry. And it means a dramatically lower carbon footprint — Irish fish caught in Irish waters and delivered to Irish homes is about as local and sustainable as food can be. We are proud to be an Irish business buying Irish, selling Irish and delivering Irish seafood to Irish homes. That is the Seafood.ie commitment and it is one we will never compromise on.
